DELTA COUNTY, Mich. (WZMQ) – A woman from the Cornell area has been arrested and arraigned on multiple felony counts related to resisting, obstructing, and assaulting a police officer.
On February 3, the Michigan State Police (MSP) Gladstone Post received a report alleging animal neglect by multiple individuals. Following an initial investigation, a search warrant was obtained to seek further evidence at a location on County Road 426 in Cornell Township.
On February 4, troopers executed a search warrant at the location. Several deceased animals, including cats, rabbits, pigs, and goats, were found at the site. Additionally, live animals in a malnourished and unhealthy condition, including 14 cats, 12 rabbits, and a sheep, were seized and removed from the property.
While troopers attempted to complete their investigation, a woman on scene began resisting and obstructing the troopers. Officials say she refused to follow lawful orders being given to her. The woman then bit one of the troopers on the wrist. She was informed that she was under arrest, and she continued to fight with the troopers, attempting to bite another trooper. She was safely taken into custody and lodged in the Delta County Jail.
On February 5, 22-year-old Brianna Makosky was arraigned in the 94th District Court on three felony counts of resisting, obstructing, and assaulting a police officer. Her bond was set at $4,000 cash/surety, and she is next due in court on February 19.
The animal neglect investigation remains ongoing and will be submitted to the Delta County Prosecutor for review once complete. MSP was assisted by the Delta Animal Shelter.
