ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – Applications are now open for an annual professional development program offered in Delta County.
Delta Force prepares participants to become leaders in their community by touring businesses, meeting local officials, and attending sessions on various topics. Once a month, they learn about a different sector of Delta County that helps to keep it running—from law enforcement and government to education and the media.
“Even if you’ve been here and you think you know everything—like I did—you’re going to learn a lot,” said Ed Legault, Executive Director of the Delta County Economic Development Alliance. “The other thing is, you’re going to get an opportunity to do some things you might not have done in the past—maybe public speaking, talking in front of a camera or talking on the radio, writing something. It’s a great opportunity.”
Legault says local businesses can invest in their employees by registering for Delta Force. Employees interested in the program are encouraged to approach their employers about applying.
To date, more than 400 people have completed the program. According to Legault, Delta Force graduates walk away with valuable knowledge and skills that they can use to empower themselves and to benefit the community.
“This is not unique just to our area, but in most areas, the program will last for about five years and kind of fall away,” he said. “It’s been such an exceptional program, it’s going on strong for over 20 years. Many companies have a waiting list of their employees of who they’re looking to send next. It’s been really, really good for our community and our area.”
Delta Force applications close on January 30. To apply or to learn more about the program, click here.
