MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – St. Vincent de Paul of Marquette is accepting donations to help a former employee after losing her home in Sands Township.
LeeAnn Swan and her family suffered a housefire on Thanksgiving. Shortly after, her neighbor and former employer decided to step in and do what she could. All day Friday, January 9, the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store of Marquette held what Store Manager Charmaine Urbanski called ‘LeeAnn Day.’
“All of the proceeds and any donations, monetary or physical donations will go to LeeAnn,” she said. “Whatever we can take in-store, I will. Then, once she moves and finds a place to live or rebuild, the donations will help with that.”
Addressed in a Facebook post this week by St. Vincent de Paul of Marquette, LeeAnn and her son Phoenix are currently being treated for burns at the University of Michigan Burn Center.
Urbanski says the two are both doing better since Thanksgiving, but that this recovery journey is just beginning.
“She lost everything, her life totally changed,” she said. “She gave to the community, and the community really wants to help, we have a lot of people saying ‘what can we bring for her, what does she need?’
Even past LeeAnn Day, the thrift store says they will accept donations for the Swan family at any time. Through out the week, donations from the area have already shown all kinds of care the Upper Peninsula is able to bring.
“Marquette County is the best, they’re very supportive,” said Urbanski. “If they can help you, they will help you, and I know LeeAnn really appreciates it.”
