MARQUETTE COUNTY, Mich. (WZMQ) – A man from Ely Township has been hospitalized after a New Year’s Eve snowmobiling accident.
On Wednesday, the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office responded to a snowmobile accident along Trail 8 near the Peshekee Grade. A sled being driven by a 73-year-old Ely Township man collided with another sled, which was being driven by a 15-year-old male from Michigamme.
The 73-year-old was thrown from his sled and injured. He was initially transported to UPHS-Bell for treatment and later transported to UPHS-Marquette. The accident remains under investigation.
The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Michigamme Township First Responders, the Michigamme Township Fire Department, and UPHS EMS. Deputies remind the public to “ride right” on snowmobile trails to reduce accidents.
