MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – During the holiday weekend, if you’ve made any plans more than dinner with the visiting family, Black Friday shopping is probably somewhere on that list.
Sales are scattered all across Marquette retailers, and one in particular is especially excited to be open following the holiday blizzard.
Downwind Sports of Marquette took part in all-day deals Friday, during what seemed to be the perfect time to purchase that winter equipment, depending on whether or not folks could dig their cars out that morning.
“It’s a blessing and a curse right?” said Nic Dobbs, an owner at the Marquette location. “It’s a bummer to see people might not make it out the door today, but as a ski shop and a winter sports shop, we’re loving to see this early snow.”
The store is among the many other locations taking part in Small Business Saturday on the 29th. The nationally recognized day celebrates the large impacts these businesses make for their communities. In Marquette this year, local partners are further promoting each other, encouraging shoppers to support the locally owned stores during this busy time.
“Here at Downwind, if you come in and spend $20, we’ll give you a drink voucher for one of our local partnered establishments,” explained Dobbs. “It’s important to us that people are coming in and supporting the businesses that support their community, and not just going online.”
These establishments include breweries like Blackrocks, Drifa, and Ore Dock, as well as coffee shops like Contrast Coffee or Dead River Coffee Roasters.
With that online option of Cyber Monday on the horizon, some small businesses aren’t always as geared towards the online deals, focusing more on the in-person sales. Be sure to contact your favorite local businesses for more information about their available deals through the weekend.
