ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Escanaba Public Safety Department has confirmed that a Wisconsin man is dead, after his vehicle crashed into a store in the Delta Plaza Mall over the weekend.
On November 16, officers responded to a single-vehicle incident behind Dunham’s Sports around 2:56 p.m. The preliminary investigation indicated that a vehicle left the roadway and struck the rear portion of the commercial building.
Escanaba Public Safety personnel responded immediately and began a medical assessment of the driver, who has been identified as 54-year-old Kenneth Wyka of Montreal, Wisconsin. Despite lifesaving efforts, Wyka was pronounced dead at the scene.
No one inside the building was injured. The incident remains under investigation, and Escanaba Public Safety extends its deepest condolences to Wyka’s family and those affected by the incident.
Escanaba Public Safety was assisted at the scene by Rampart EMS, Gene’s Towing, the Delta County Sheriff’s Department, and the Delta County Central Dispatch Center.
