ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – A national footwear retailer is helping members of America’s military stay warm this holiday season.
Shoe Sensation has launched its tenth annual Socks 4 Troops campaign. Customers can donate or purchase a new pair of socks, which will be sent to active-duty service members and local veterans. Shoe Sensation offers United Footgear socks, which are made in the United States and contain a large amount of cotton for comfort.
In 2024, the Escanaba Shoe Sensation brought in more than 2,700 pairs of socks. Nationwide, the campaign brought in 60,000 pairs.
“What we do on the backs of our socks is we actually black out our bar code, and then we also do write ‘thank you’ with a heart,” said Escanaba store manager Marge Derkos. “Basically, it’s meant to when they see it coming from shoe sensation, is that we appreciate what they have done. Our freedom isn’t free, and if we can give back just a little bit, every little bit helps.”
Derkos says Socks 4 Troops is just one example of Shoe Sensation’s efforts to engage in community outreach. To thank campaign participants, those who buy socks to donate at Shoe Sensation will receive a 20% discount on their purchase.
Socks 4 Troops runs through December 31. The Escanaba Shoe Sensation is located at the Delta Plaza Mall on North Lincoln Road.
