ISHPEMING, Mich. (WZMQ) – A list of small businesses were recognized Thursday night for their efforts towards the people they serve across Marquette County.
Under the theme of Anatomy of a Murder, the Lake Superior Community Partnership (LSCP) welcomed members of numerous Marquette County businesses to the Mather Inn for a fun night of recognition with its second annual Small Business Celebration.
Across the year, the LSCP has taken award nominations from over 380 residents and fellow businesses, based on high impacts and leadership efforts, handing out 5 significant awards on Thursday.
“We think recognition is important of all that hard work, so we have five awards that we’re handing out, one for each of the four sub regions of the county, and then an overall Small Business Champion, somebody who really helps make the environment and allow small businesses to thrive,” explained Christopher Germain, CEO of LSCP.
Alexander Kofsky, the executive director of Accelerate UP was awarded the ‘2025 Small Business Champion’ for his extensive work throughout the county. Over the last year, Accelerate UP has served over 170 clients in its free and confidential business coaching non-profit.
“There’s so many great businesses, so many people helping help businesses in the area. So to be chosen with this award, it just means the world,” said Kofsky. “We’re helping create jobs, we’re helping people access finances, and we’re also really just bringing ideas to life that what may or may not have come to life without our help.”
Other award recipients include Queen City Running Company, West End Gymnastics Center, Big Bay’s Lumberjack Tavern, and AV Rental Company.
“The recognition is very nice,” said Kyle Aho, owner of AV Rental Company. “It comes as a compliment to our team, for us to be selected, I believe is a testament to who we are. In our efforts to treat people as people in the affordable housing space, that’s not always the norm, so I think that’s why we’ve been recognized for the award.”
