ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – Various fire and public safety departments responded to a fire at an Escanaba business on Thursday.
Around noon, responders were dispatched to a fire at Race Ramps on 23rd Avenue North. Around 1 p.m., officials issued an emergency alert advising nearby residents and businesses to close their windows to limit their exposure to the heavy smoke. Officials then said as of 1:50 p.m., the smoke was no longer a concern.
According to Escanaba Public Safety, officers encountered heavy fire and smoke conditions throughout the structure. Due to the size of the manufacturing facility and the nature of the materials stored inside, the incident was quickly upgraded, prompting a mutual aid response. Firefighters worked for several hours to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to neighboring buildings.
No injuries were reported among employees or emergency personnel. All workers were safely evacuated from the building. The fire remains under investigation.
