MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Marquette County Board has a new budget and a new face.
During their regularly scheduled meeting tonight, the Marquette County Board of Commissioners unanimously passed its 2026 budget of nearly 86 million dollars. In addition to the budget, the commission also appointed a new member to the board to replace Johnny DePetro, who retired last month. The board chose county attorney Karl Numinen from a field of 4 finalists. During the session, Numinen resigned his position as Civil Council to the board and was immediately sworn in as a commissioner by County Clerk Linda Talsma.
“It is a very exciting time with Marquette County government. We’ve got an administrator now, who’s wonderful. I’ve worked with Duane Duray for a long time. We’ve got civil council in place to replace me with Alex Berger. I’ve worked with him for a long time. The board is full, and we’re ready to, you know, I’m ready to dig in,” said Numinen.
Numinen’s appointment now brings the board to full strength.
