MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Last Friday was Plaidurday, a very unique holiday that started right here in Marquette, Here now is a report on the annual group photo shoot at the Ore Dock Brewery, and has this report.
The US has some pretty obscure holidays. And right between National Noodle Day and National Fluffer-Nutter day lies Plaidurday, the brainchild of Marquette entrepreneur Bugsy Sailor. It came to be because his co workers thought his plaid plenty wardrobe was a bit much.
“Plaidurday began in Lansing, where a colleague of mine was teasing me for wearing so much plaid. He says it was taking away from my potential in life. So I told him, I’m just going to wear more plaid and create a holiday after it. And here we are, 15 years later,” said Sailor.
The highlight of Plaidurday is the group photo held this year on the patio of the Ore Dock Brewery in Marquette. There are also celebrations in Houghton and in Ironwood, home of the plaid purveyor Stormy Cromer, the gatherings attract hundreds of plaid clad citizens, all vying for the title of world’s largest gathering of people in plaid.
“You couldn’t ask for a bigger group of people, unrelated gathering together for something fun,”
This year was the first photo held at a private business. The Ore Dock Brewery came through for all these thirsty plaid clad patrons.
They were all glad for their plaid, and regardless of the weight or pattern, there’s no such thing as bad plaid.
“But it’s really fun. There’s no agenda to it. It’s just people gathering, and you see a lot of smiles. It’s fun to see everybody in their plaids,” said Sailor.
And always remember, the higher the latitude, the greater the Plaiditude.
