HARRIS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZMQ) – An adult male is dead following a shooting at a Harris Township residence on Thursday.
At approximately 12:19 a.m., troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Iron Mountain Post responded to a reported shooting at a home on County Road 551. When troopers arrived, they found that a 34-year-old Wilson man had been shot. Troopers and EMS personnel attempted life-saving measures, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The preliminary investigation indicates that a physical assault between the deceased man and his domestic partner occurred at the residence prior to the shooting. The man then assaulted another member of the home with a knife and was shot. The shooting appears to be self-defense.
The MSP Marquette Crime Lab assisted with processing the scene for evidence. An MSP Iron Mountain Post Crime Victim Advocate has been made available to help support those involved. Officials say it was an isolated incident, and there is no danger to the public.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing. The incident will be submitted for review by Menominee County Prosecutor once the investigation is finalized. The names of the subjects involved are not being released out of respect for the families’ privacy.
MSP was assisted by Hannahville Tribal Police, the Menominee County Sheriff’s Office, Rampart EMS, and D&D Dog Dynamics.
