MTU fifth, NMU eighth in GLIAC Football Preseason Poll

Defending National Champion Ferris State projected as conference winner

 Michigan Tech football has been picked to finish fifth in the GLIAC preseason coaches poll, the league office announced on Thursday. 

The Huskies collected 28 points, finishing three points back from Davenport and 10 points behind Saginaw Valley State, who earned one first-place vote. The defending National Champion Ferris State Bulldogs once again were selected to win the GLIAC, earning six first-place votes for 47 overall points, with Grand Valley State residing second, earning one first-place vote and a point total of 41.

Wayne State (6th-place), Roosevelt, in its second-year at the Division II level (7th-place) and Northern Michigan (8th-place) rounded out the poll.

The Black & Gold are fresh off the 2024 season which saw Michigan Tech get to seven wins for the first time since 2015 under second-year head coach Dan Mettlach, finishing in a three-way tie for third in the GLIAC with Saginaw Valley State and Davenport, playing to an overall record of 7-4 and 4-3 in the loop.

MTU will host five home games at Kearly Stadium, kindled by a Thursday Night season opener against Bemidji State fresh off an NCAA Tournament run that ended in the quarterfinals on Aug. 28, GLVC affiliate Upper Iowa on for Homecoming on Sept. 20, before turning to GLIAC play welcoming Ferris State Oct. 18, Roosevelt Nov. 1 and Saginaw Valley State on Nov. 15 for Senior Day.

Michigan Tech football, in partnership with the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, announced a four-year media partnership with FloSports beginning in the fall of 2022. Anyone who subscribes using a GLIAC member institution domain (.edu) e-mail address will be eligible for an additional discounted subscription rate. Subscriptions are offered in two different billing packages – monthly and annual. Fans can sign up for monthly, or annual subscriptions here.
