Starts his eighth season with Wildcats
MARQUETTE, Mich. – Northern Michigan Track & Field head coach Jenny Ryan has announced the promotion of Michael Dellemann to Associate Head Coach of the program ahead of the 2025-26 season.
Dellemann will be entering his 8th season with the Green and Gold after joining the program in 2018-19 as an Assistant Coach.
“Coach Dellemann has done a tremendous job taking on more duties with the program including recruiting top student-athletes, building our culture through team activities, and working on projects and administrative work, and he has earned this opportunity as Associate Head Coach,” said Ryan.
Dellemann was a part of the 2024-25 coaching staff that was honored with the GLIAC Outdoor Coaching Staff of the Year. Northern had a historic outdoor campaign, claiming its best-ever GLIAC finish in program history by taking 2nd place.
Guiding the jumps, hurdles, and the multi, he has coached 17 All-GLIAC finishes in his events since 2023. Additionally, in 2024, Ellyse Wolfrath was named a Second Team All-American in the 60-meter hurdles under Dellemann’s leadership. Throughout his NMU tenure, the Wildcats have had seven NCAA Championship qualifiers in his events.
“Being a part of this program over the past few seasons has been so rewarding that I can’t wait to see what the future holds,” said Dellemann. “Everyone associated with the team, whether they are student-athletes, coaches, or support staff, works hard and supports each other so well that it makes going to practice one of the highlights of my day.”
Before his time at NMU, he spent two seasons at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. At UWSP, Dellemann helped eight Pointer athletes qualify for the NCAA Championships, including an All-American in the indoor heptathlon.
In his professional athletic career, Dellemann competed for the elite development team of the U.S. Bobsled and Skeleton team between 2011 and 2013. He was ranked fourth on the team heading into the 2014 Winter Olympics after recording multiple top international finishes.
Dellemann was a student-athlete at Stevens Point, where he was an All-American in 2009 for the indoor pentathlon and in 2010 for the indoor 55-meter hurdles. He was a three-time Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Champion and set school records in the indoor pentathlon.
