Gear up your bikes for the annual Pioneer Days Bike Parade

NEGAUNEE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Kids from the Negaunee community and surrounding areas grabbed their bikes and raced down to the annual Pioneer Days Negaunee Elks Bike Parade. This generational tradition provides children with an opportunity to get outside, get involved in the community, and participate in a parade.

This parade starts on Rail Street and ends at the Negaunee Ice Arena. This parade has no age limit; as long as you can ride a bike, you’re welcome to join the parade. After the bike parade, the community of Negaunee gathers for a celebration. There are bouncy houses, carnival games, face painting, drawings, hot dogs, ice cream, and more. To add to the Negaunee Elks giving back to the community, all of the drawings done by the kids at this event are brought to the Jacobetti Veterans Home.

“I did this when I was a kid, and I remember this, which is kinda why we continue to do it, so it gives a chance for the kids to participate in a parade. They get to ride their bikes. We made it a straight shot; it used to be up Iron Street, now it’s down Rail Street, so that’s a little bit better for the kids, especially for our littles,” said Jaime Crabb, Negaunee Elks Kids Day Coordinator.

The Negaunee Elks are always looking for new members. To become a new member or to participate in next year’s Pioneer Day Bike Parade, go to the Negaunee Elk Lodge website.

The owners of Iron Mountain's Trump Tower, hosted a fireworks display this evening at the site. This evenings fireworks were in honor of Veterans Day, but had to be postponed until tonight due to high winds yesterday. The fireworks were provided by pyrotechnics professionals Spread Eagle Fireworks. The show was made possible after the Iron Mountain City Council approved a fireworks permit at a special meeting held yesterday. The tower's owner Dan Rittenhouse was proud to honor our veterans.
