GLADSTONE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Friday morning, a group of cyclists gathered at the Gladstone Armory for an annual Independence Day ride.
The Patriotic Pedal Parade started six years ago, when the City’s July 4th parade was canceled due to the pandemic. It is a five-mile ride along the bay open to cyclists of all ages.
There are only a few requirements to participate. Everyone must display an American flag on their bike, and no political signs or flags are permitted.
Riders decorate their bikes with small flags and streamers, and each one wears red, white, and blue. Co-founder Tom Nault says the Patriotic Pedal Parade is a vibrant display of the patriotism participants feel for the United States of America.
“It’s a really easy ride, and the kids love it,” said Nault. “We have semi trucks, cars, everything honking and beeping, so everybody’s showing their pride. It’s really about pride. Anybody can do it, and hopefully we can see you guys next year.”
About 60 cyclists came out for this year’s Patriotic Pedal Parade. The group hopes to eventually reach 100.
