HARRIS, Mich. (WZMQ) – This week, commissioners from every U.P. county are in Harris to discuss the issues impacting their constituents.
The Island Resort & Casino is hosting the biannual Upper Peninsula Association of County Commissioners Conference on Thursday and Friday. Commissioners hear presentations on recent DNR projects, developments in Medicaid, and roadwork happening across the U.P. They also learn about new legislation, like the Earned Sick Time Act.
Marquette County Commission Chairman Joseph Derocha says the conference is an opportunity for commissioners to bring new information back to their county boards.
“We always strive to serve our taxpayers—shareholders, I call them—best,” he said. “There’s an educational seminar for question and answer on how we can do efficiencies with the tax money they’ve entrusted us to manage.”
The U.P. Association of County Commissioners will meet again in October.
