MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Presque Isle Marina is opening on Thursday after being delayed from its original open date last week due to unrepaired ice damage. Damage included several broken brackets and displaced planks and anchors.
Marquette’s Assistant Director of Community Services Andrew MacIver said ice damage is not unexpected, but the cold weather late in February made making repairs this year slower.
“We anticipate ice damage every year at both marinas, its just generally the nature of Lak Superior, it’s very unforgiving,” said MacIver. “Usually we can complete any ice damage repairs that needs to happen before the opening date, however we kind of had an extended winter this year that kind of prohibited us from being ale to work on the docks.”
Both the Presque Isle and Cinder Pond marinas will remain open through the summer until November 1st.
