GWINN, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Saturday April 26, a seminar covering wildfire awareness in the U.P. will be held. The presentation will go from 9am to 12pm at the Sands Township Hall. Members from the Michigan DNR, American Red Cross, UPAWS, and more, will cover topics on local fire history and disaster resources for family, pets and livestock.
Gwinn community member Cathy Ruprecht says that fire safety is sometimes overlooked in the U.P., when in reality it’s a very real concern.
“Wildfires happen, and they happen in the U.P.,” said Ruprecht. “It’s important because we need to pay attention to what we can do to prepare ourselves. Both at a personal level, and also from a community perspective, with what resources are available.”
Ruprecht runs a page focusing on large animal safety in the event of an emergency, called Michigan Large Animal Emergency Resources.
