NEGAUNEE TWP, Mich. (WZMQ) – This past weekend saw some pretty dramatic weather, from ice, sleet, freezing rain, hail, and snow, the UP saw all of it in a three-day period. Friday even had thunderstorms along with all the other activity.
Meteorologist Joe Phillips from the National Weather Service says that this latest event was quite rare and different from a usual snowstorm.
“Instead, we had thunder, freezing rain, and thunder-sleet storms, which was a meteorological first for me. It’s my first time seeing freezing rain, thunderstorms, so I’ve been in the weather for a while now, and this was the first time for me,” said Phillips..
Most of the up received 12-15 inches of snow, except in the Marquette area, which received up to 2 feet of snow.
