AUTRAIN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZMQ) – Law enforcement is investigating a snowmobile crash in Alger County that killed one individual.
At approximately 3:20 on Monday, March 3, Alger County Dispatch received a 911 call reporting a severe snowmobile accident on Trail #8 near Autrain Camp Road. Alger County Sheriff’s deputies, Alger County EMS, Alger County Rescue 21, and the Michigan State Police responded.
When officials arrived, they found a 61-year-old male from Edwardsburg, Michigan unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the County Sheriff’s Office, authorities determined that the victim failed to negotiate a curve as he left the main portion of the trail. He was ejected from the snowmobile into several trees. Excessive speed is believed to be the main factor in the crash, and alcohol was determined not to be a factor.
The investigation remains ongoing. The victim’s name is being withheld, pending the investigation’s conclusion.
