ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – This weekend, the Delta County Cancer Alliance is shining a light on just how many people in the community have been impacted by a cancer diagnosis.
The Cancer Alliance will host its annual Luminary Gathering at Blessed Hope Baptist Church on Saturday, February 8. For $5, community members can purchase a bag to decorate in honor of someone battling cancer or in memory of someone they lost to cancer.
Just after 2 p.m. on Saturday, the bags will be displayed together with a lit candle inside each one. Then, the names of each honoree will be read.
“It’s a time of comfort and caring for those that have been coming into our office, sometimes on a weekly basis,” said Cancer Alliance President Gayle DeShambo. “It’s just to let them know we care, we remember, and we want to be there for you.”
Participants can purchase bags this week at the Delta County Cancer Alliance office, located at 3430 Ludington Street, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. or at the event. Bags can be decorated at the office or taken home and brought to the event on Saturday. Blessed Hope Baptist Church is located at 2530 14th Avenue South in Escanaba.
