MANISTIQUE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Tax Day is still a few months away, but a new preparation service in Manistique aims to help clients navigate the filing process.
Business has long been a passion for Syrea McDonald, leading her to earn a bachelor’s degree in business management at Northern Michigan University.
“After college, I worked in a couple different related businesses,” she said. “I was in finance for a bit and then real estate here in Manistique. I just have always liked working with numbers, so I feel like this could be a really great option for me. I’m excited to bring the business here.”
That business is Evergreen Tax Solutions, located at 131 South Cedar Street Suite 1 in the Manistique Bank Building.
“I am going to be doing personal taxes this first year and eventually expand into corporations,” said McDonald. “I will also offer refund transfers. I know a lot of people have struggles paying those up-front fees to have someone prepare your taxes for you. I will have the ability to take that directly out of their refund so there’s no out-of-pocket cost for that. I also hope to expand into more payroll services for local businesses to help them with bookkeeping.”
While she is not the only tax preparer in the area, McDonald says she has seen a need for more businesses like hers.
“There’s such a big community we have,” she said. “The surrounding areas, I know they don’t all have tax professionals. Everyone’s got to pay taxes, and I feel like I could be a great, new, fresh person to bring it to the area.”
Evergreen Tax Solutions opens on Monday, January 13. With tax season just around the corner, McDonald says it is an ideal time.
“A lot of people don’t get all of their documentation until end of January or early February,” she explained. “Some people, if you’re claiming certain credits, can’t even get those refunds until later February. It’s a good time to just get the process started for a lot of people. Self-employed individuals who have to pay their quarterly taxes or people who maybe booked a business or sold a home and they have those kinds of questions, they can come in and talk to me.”
McDonald says her goal is to give clients a seamless tax preparation experience from start to finish.
“I have capabilities to do in-person meetings or fully remote, so whether they’re in Manistique or not I can guide them through the process,” said McDonald. “Just know that I’m providing a quick and accurate return for them.”
