Hoving earns All-Region honors
ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Northern Michigan cross country team finished in 11th place of 27 teams at the Midwest Regional Championship, moving up three spots in the final leg of the race, the biggest jump of any team in that stretch. The finish marked a 15th consecutive top-15 finish in the Midwest for the ‘Cats.
After earning All-GLIAC First Team honors, junior Gianna Hoving led the way with an 18th place finish, crossing at 21:54.16 to earn All-Region accolades. Hoving was in 41st at the 2K marker and continued to move up as the race progressed. She was in 32nd at 3.1K before moving up to finish in 18th at the 6K finish line.
Next in for the Wildcats was sophomore Dani VanLente, taking 63rd in a time of 23:06.60. She also made moves as the race went on, moving from 82nd at 2K to 80th at 3.1K before finishing in 63rd.
Senior Skylar Grubb was third for the Wildcats in a time of 23:12.04 for 71st. Not far behind Grubb was sophomore Lamar Gordon who finished in 75th with a time of 23:15.82. Junior Beverly Harper also recorded a top-100 finish, placing in 80th with a personal best time of 23:20.85.
Sophomore Emma Sweeney took 108th at 23:44.57 while freshman Celia Wallace finished in 136th at a time of 24:19.00.
Grand Valley took first place with Lauren Kiley earning first place at 20:57.78 followed by teammate Allie Arnsman at 21:16.21 for second. The Lewis Flyers finished in second while Cedarville rounded out the top three.
