MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Marquette Police Department is reporting they have found a card skimming device on a gas pump at an unnamed business on Wednesday.
The department has a few tips for customers on how to avoid being scammed by these devices:
• Visually inspect the card reader and keypad for signs of tampering.
• Look for loose or misaligned parts.
• Check tamper features such as tape or seals which may be broken.
• Compare card reader look to other readers in the area (gas pumps).
• Look for a keypad overlay. The keypad may feel flimsy.
They say if a customer suspects a skimmer, don’t use it and report it to the store so it can be inspected.
