MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – This Sunday, the Marquette Maritime Museum held its 6th annual Lake Superior Day Celebration. Lake Superior Day is the 3rd Sunday of July when communities surrounding Lake Superior celebrate the biggest Great Lake.
This event is a chance for Marquette’s community to unite to educate and celebrate Lake Superior. Vendors like the League of Women, the Great Lakes Scuba Divers, the U.P. Children’s Museum, and more came to offer knowledge and support to the community. The event had kids’ activities, displays, and live sea lampers which are invasive species in Lake Superior.
“It’s a lotta work organizing this event but just seeing everybody set up and all the different organizers is my favorite part,” Hilary Billman, Marquette Maritime Museum Director.
The Marquette Maritime Museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will also be hosting an Adventures in Cardboard: Boat Building Monday from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., for more information go to the Marquette Maritime Museum website.
