ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Delta County Board of Commissioners has appointed two new members to the county’s Parks and Recreation Commission.
In June, the board removed two commission members who had been appointed by the previous board. County Commissioner Kelli Van Ginhoven made a motion to remove former Delta Conservation District manager Rory Mattson, which passed 4 to 1. Commissioner Myra Croasdell made a motion to remove Alan Ettenhofer, which passed 3 to 2.
The board debated the removal of Mattson, who has had a number of conflicts with the Conservation District board chair and is currently suing the Conservation District. As for Ettenhofer’s removal, Croasdell said a “very qualified” candidate had been overlooked for the position.
On Tuesday, the board appointed Conservation District Board member and secretary Glenn Vande Water to fill Mattson’s position. Mary Harrington was appointed to replace Alan Ettenhofer.
The Delta Conservation District no longer oversees county forests and parks. However, County Commissioner Matt Jensen serves as a liaison between the two boards and attended his first Conservation District meeting as a commissioner last month.
