IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WZMQ) – It was a night to remember as the Dickinson Ballet Company and Northern Michigan Dance Academy presented their spring ballet showcase, with senior Addie Rutter taking center stage as the White Rabbit in “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.”
Addie Rutter, a Kingsford High School senior, will perform her final act with the academy this weekend. In her 15-year dance journey, the last four years were spent with the Northern Michigan Dance Academy. She and her fellow dancers poured their hearts into this spring ballet showcase. As she prepared for her senior solo, Rutter was thrilled to announce her acceptance to the St. Norbert College dance team in Wisconsin.
“I was really excited for dance tryouts,” Rutter said. “I wasn’t actually planning on trying out for it. But then earlier this year, I decided that I wanted to. Normally, I would’ve backed out of something like that because I get nervous, but I just went for it, and I was just confident, and it ended up working really well in my favor.”
Rutter described the college dance team as a combination of jazz, lyrical, and poms, a blend of styles she eagerly anticipates exploring.
The spring ballet showcase continues at the Braumart Theatre with performances tomorrow at 7 p.m. Central Time and a matinée on Sunday at 2 p.m. Central. The artistic directors of the ballet are Kim Johnson and Gracie Ramlow, with assistant directors Katie Roell and Leah Trepanier.
Rutter says that she hopes anyone who gets tickets and comes to see Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland truly enjoy the show.
