FELCH, Mich. (WZMQ) – Delaney Kramer, a dedicated senior at North Dickinson, received a remarkable surprise when she was granted a full ride scholarship to Bay College. Kramer, known for her involvement in her school’s 1st-grade classroom, was overwhelmed with joy as she was presented with the prestigious Board of Trustees Scholarship.

Accompanied by her mother, who also works at North Dickinson School, Kramer was greeted by her enthusiastic first-grade students, who showered her with streamers in celebration of her achievement.

“She works at the school. So they asked her to come down, and she didn’t know what was going on,” shared Kramer, explaining “Well, Ms. Jungwirth, our guidance counselor, originally told me about it, and I fit the criteria, so I applied. Then I didn’t really think about it much after, because I didn’t think it would be that soon that I would’ve been accepted for it, but when I walked into the 1st grade class at my school, one day where I do my field placement, they all had little streamers and little pop-its, and people were there to present me with the awards”

Expressing her excitement, Kramer revealed, “I feel like I’ve done enough with time in school, and I’m excited to move on.”

With aspirations to major in elementary education, Kramer expressed her gratitude to her teachers and the Great Lakes Recovery Center she volunteers with for their support in securing the scholarship. Reflecting on her experience, she mentioned, “You had to write two essays and have a lot of recommendation letters for it.”

When asked about her future plans, Kramer highlighted her desire to teach various grade levels, particularly focusing on pre-K through third grade initially. She acknowledged her admiration for her mentor, Mrs. Mattson, stating, “I really like the 1st grade and the first-graders. Mrs. Mattson is really great. I’ve learned a lot from her.”

Despite her excitement for the journey ahead, Kramer emphasized her intention to stay close to her family, expressing her fondness for the community despite the challenging winters.

“I’d like to stay close to family,” she asserted. “I like it up here.”

With her sights set on the Escanaba campus, Kramer is eager to move forward with her educational journey at Bay College.
