Local non-profit receives a grant from the West End Health Foundation.

ISHPEMING, Mich, (WZMQ) – West End Health Foundation’s Proactive Grant cycle open on May 1.

The foundation will be providing up to $50,000 in grants to non-profits that serve the Negaunee and Ishpeming area.

This grant cycle is focused on food security, which Kori Bjorn of the West End Health Foundation Board of Directors said is one of the most important part of a community’s overall health.

“A lot of people think, ‘well I go to the doctor and I het better or you know I have this chronic disease,” said Bjorn, “how do I focus on that?’ But there are so many social determinates of health and food insecurity is really one of the biggest ones there, because that’s one of our basic needs.”

Applications for this grant cycle will be open until the beginning of June.
