MARQUETTE Mich. (WZMQ) – Marquette is looking for artist to spruce up The Words to Live and Bike By pathway.
The pathway project was started in 2020 with the original five words, then was added to in 2023 with an additional five words.
The first round of Words to Live and Bike by is in need of some fresh coats of paint.
“After four years of loving them, they are now faded to the elements and it’s time to repaint them,” says Amelia Pruiett, the communications coordinator at Marquette Arts and Culture. “So we are reimagining the original five words with new artist and designs.”
Out of the ten words scattered along the path the five words that need to be repainted and redesigned are hope, dream, remember, respect and gratitude.
By going to MarquetteCompas.com you will be able to download or print the layout of your selected word so you’re able to personally design it. After finishing your sketch you can head back to MarquetteCompas.com and submit a photo there.
Applications for the project will be due this Sunday April 27th. Once the submissions have been reviewed and the final design is selected installation of these murals will be June 22nd-30th during the City of Marquette Art Week.
Anyone can submit a design for any of the words, you do not have to be an artist to submit your design. The selected artist will receive $300 along with some other necessary supplies to complete the mural.
