ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – On April 9, authorities arrested 22-year-old Peter Sand of Daggett Township for making threats against local officials throughout the Upper Peninsula. The investigation has linked Sand to the death threat sent to three Delta County Commissioners.
In March, Commissioners David Moyle, Bob Barron, and Robert Petersen received the same email, which read, “Resign now or you will die next week.” Petersen tells WZMQ 19 he is glad Sand was caught, noting that the commissioners have been accused of orchestrating the situation themselves.
“It’s really hard to do your job when you’ve got a threat like that hanging over you,” said Petersen. “I know I’ve spent a lot of time over the last year, but especially after the death threat, looking over my shoulder every day. That’s a hard life to live. Hopefully, this will teach people that you just can’t do this kind of thing.”
Petersen hopes to see Sand receive “a just sentence.”
Sand faces three felony charges for a false report or threat of terrorism, use of the internet/telecommunications to commit terrorism, and using a computer to commit a crime. For more details about Sand’s arrest, click here.
