Update: Water boil advisory in effect in parts of Escanaba

ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – As of Wednesday, March 20, a boil advisory is in effect in parts of Escanaba.

Residents of the areas listed below are directed to boil all drinking water taken from the public water system, including water for drinking, making ice cubes, washing foods, brushing teeth, and any other activities involving the consumption of water.

  • 610, 622, 700, 710, 720, 730, 736, 738, 742, 750, and 758 Lake Shore Drive
  • 800 Block of Lake Shore Drive
  • 900 Block of Lake Shore Drive
  • 1000 Block Lake Shore Drive
  • 1105 – 1125 Lake Shore Drive
  • 620 5th Avenue South
  • 701, 707, 706, 714, and 716 Bay Street
  • 900 Block of 7th Avenue South
  • 721 and 1004 South 10th Street
  • 1000 Block of 10th Avenue South

All affected residents will receive a red door hanger regarding the boil advisory until further notified. They will experience interruption of service or loss of water throughout the day.

Residents are advised to bring tap water to a solid boil. Once it is steadily boiling, continue to boil the water for five full minutes. Allow the water to cool, then store it in a container. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking until further notice.

Once work is complete, the mains are flushed, and the water is tested for bacteriological analysis, residents will be notified that the water is safe to consume with a green door hanger. If water remains discolored after 20 – 30 minutes of being restored, contact the City of Escanaba Water Department at (906) 786 – 3291.

ORIGINAL STORY: Water service will be disrupted in parts of the City of Escanaba on Wednesday, March 20.

The Water Department will be conducting upgrades to the water system that day. Crews will be replacing water main and lead service lines.

The department hopes the work will be confined to the following areas:

  • 610, 622, 700, 710, 720, 730, 736, 738, 742, 750, and 758 Lake Shore Drive
  • 800 Block of Lake Shore Drive
  • 900 Block of Lake Shore Drive
  • 1000 Block Lake Shore Drive
  • 1105 – 1125 Lake Shore Drive
  • 620 5th Avenue South
  • 701, 707, 706, 714, and 716 Bay Street
  • 900 Block of 7th Avenue South
  • 721 and 1004 South 10th Street
  • 1000 Block of 10th Avenue South

“We apologize for any inconvenience this will create, but we have no other means of conducting this work without shutting the water down,” Water & Wastewater Superintendent Jeff Lampi stated in a press release.

If the department is forced to shut off water, workers will hand-deliver red boil advisory notices to those affected. Once the water is restored, a boil advisory will be in effect until lab results determine the water is safe for consumption. If the work goes as planned, green door hanger notifications for normal water usage will be hand-delivered by the end of the day on Friday, March 22.

Anyone with questions or concerns about the work or their water service can contact the City of Escanaba Water Department at (906) 786-3291.
