ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – Young professionals in Delta County have an opportunity to learn about becoming leaders in their communities.
“About 20 years ago, area business leaders approached the Delta County Chamber of Commerce about developing a leadership program for young people that work in business,” explained Delta County Economic Development Alliance Executive Director Ed Legault. “How could we help them become better leaders?”
Since then, the Delta Force program has provided training for more than 400 up-and-coming professionals. From February to October, students attend classes once a month, where they learn about different aspects of the community.
“You really get a good taste of education, healthcare, business, media, the inner workings of many different things in Delta County,” Legault said. “It’ll also stretch you a little bit to make you a better leader and challenge you as far as sharing your opinion and getting involved in other things that happen in our area.”
Many Delta Force graduates have gone on to serve on local councils, take on leadership roles, and even start their own businesses. While young professionals are welcome to apply for the program, business owners can also sponsor an employee.
The deadline to apply for the Delta Force Class of 2024 is Friday, February 9. The first session will be held on Thursday, February 29. To apply, visit deltami.org or call the Chamber of Commerce at (906) 786-2192.
