HOUGHTON, Mich. (WZMQ) – Michigan Tech’s annual Winter Carnival is set to start this week, students are hard at work preparing snow sculptures to be judged during the festivities.
This year the warm weather and lack of snowfall has made constructing the car sized sculptures challenging. According to the Alpha Sigma Tau sorority they have had to haul in snow from fields and parking lots around Houghton County.
Even with the unusual weather, groups are confident this year’s Winter Carnival will be a success.
“We are working with what can do, we are just gonna run by the seat of our pants and do what we can,” said Emily Taylor, the President of the Alpha Sigma Tau sorority.
Statue judging will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday. A full schedule for Winter Carnival Activities can be found here.
