MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – A singing chorus group has relaunched after the pandemic, ready to sing their hearts out to the Upper Peninsula.
The Upper Yoopers Barbershop Quartet has made its way back to the Upper Peninsula stage after the pandemic. The chorus has started creating harmony again throughout the UP.
“Ultimately it was something that was a lot more fun to just explore and discover,” commented Upper Yoopers Music Director Pete Stephens-Brown.
Since starting in his High School choir, Pete Stephens-Brown has always enjoyed switching up the cadence or rhythm of a song, which drew him to barbershop-style singing in the first place. “The feedback that each of us gives and it just builds on itself and spending a day singing valentines is probably the best place you can be,” continued Brown.
The Director said the quartet is diligently rehearsing its songs like “Heart of my Heart” and “I wanna Grow Old with you”, to perform for loved ones or anyone else looking to send a loving message. Gift recipients got a rose, local chocolates, and even a reaction picture printed on the scene.
“That kind of message ‘people are paying attention to me’ kind of a thing that’s a good thing once in a while,” continued the Director.
