PORTAGE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZMQ) – UPDATE: The two people arrested following a shooting Portage Township on Tuesday, February 2 have been arraigned in Mackinac County District Court.
Thirty-seven-year-old Benjamin Paul Watts and 37-year-old Lindsey Lee Watts of Germfask have each been charged with three felonies: Homicide- Attempted Murder, Assault with Dangerous Weapon-Felonious Assault, and Felony Firearms. It is unsure at this time if the suspects are related.
Both have been released on separate $10,000 surety bonds. According to the Mackinac County District Court, both will have Electronic GPS tethers on while awaiting trial.
The pair’s next court appearance is scheduled for February 13 for a probable cause conference, followed by a preliminary exam on February 29.
A man is recovering and two people are awaiting charges after a shooting in Portage Township Tuesday afternoon.
The Mackinac County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called to the Curtis Travelers Lodge around 4:30 p.m. for a report of a man shot by his wife. Deputies learned en route that two men were physical fighting, and one of the men and the woman fled the scene.
The victim was taken to Helen Newberry Joy Hospital by Portage Township EMS with a graze wound on the side of his head and is expected to recover.
The woman and the other man were found at a nearby residence. Both were arrested and lodged in the Mackinac County Jail awaiting charges pending a review from the county prosecutor.
No other information is being released at this time. The incident remains under investigation.
The Luce County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, and Michigan DNR assisted with the response.
