IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WZMQ) – The IMHS wrestling dynamos, who boasted over a dozen state qualifiers last year, are on another winning streak this season. Jen Geneva, the team’s dedicated Fundraising Coordinator, just announced an exciting fundraiser set to take place at the Sol Blu Lounge on February 2nd, immediately after school until from 3 PM to 7 PM Central Time.
Spearheading the initiative, Geneva emphasized, “It’s a chance for the community to show support and even meet some of the wrestlers.” The event will feature a 50-50 raffle, basket giveaways, and live wrestlers for fans to meet and greet. All donations and proceeds will contribute to the 2023-24 wrestling season.
Senior team members, bound for the UP Finals this weekend, will share more details on the team’s happenings tomorrow. The funds raised will play a crucial role in supporting upcoming events and the state finals. Geneva expressed the team’s hope for community turnout, stating, “We’re hoping that our community comes out and supports us.”
With aspirations for notable achievements in the upcoming season, Geneva stressed the importance of donations for travel, food, and hotel stays for meets that take place all around the state. Last year saw 13 finalists, with 8 placing in states. Geneva mentioned, “We don’t have a specific [monetary] number in mind, just trying to get as many donations as we can to support and give back to our wrestlers for all the hard work and dedication they have to the sport.”
For those eager to contribute, donations can be made to wrestling coach Cory Mclaren and funding coordinator Carrie Stroud. Checks or cash in envelopes can be dropped off at North Elementary’s main office to Jennifer Geneva or at Iron Mountain High School’s office to coach Cory Mclaren. The community’s support will undoubtedly fuel the wrestling team’s journey to success.
