Dickinson County Library sustained minimal damage from electrical fire

IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WZMQ) – There was a small electrical fire in the Dickinson County Library. The fire started in one of the staff rooms from an overhead light fixture, which dropped down onto a pile of books. Crystal Jacklovitz, the Library’s media coordinator, stated that all staff are trained to respond to fires using a fire extinguisher, and the Iron Mountain Fire Department was on the scene within minutes of the incident. Jacklovitz added that The Director of Fire and Police Services, Ed Mattson was on the scene as well. Dickinson County Library Director Megan Buck stated that the Library has already made a call to an electrician to address the cause. The Library remains open for regular library hours, with doors open to increase air circulation and decrease the residual smoke smell. There was only a small amount of damage to a few boxes of books, however Jacklovitz informed that thankfully the books that sustained damage were headed for recycling, and not part of the library’s collection.
