MANISTIQUE, Mich. (WZMQ) – November 25 is Small Business Saturday. This holiday season, Manistique business owners are encouraging their community to shop small.

Businesses like The Mustard Seed, Michigan Made, and Yooper Fitness are gearing up for Manistique’s Shop Small Saturday.

“We offer promotions that day, we do some extra fun things in the store—tastings of our products, some giveaways,” said Mustard Seed owner Bristol Snider. “It brings a lot of energy to the town and people are together for Thanksgiving, so it’s just a really fun day out.”

“We have participated in Small Business Saturday for the last three years at this location and have always had a great turnout and a great time with the community supporting the small businesses here,” said Emily Marcotte, manager of Michigan Made and owner of Yooper Fitness.

Before heading to the stores, shoppers can download or pick up a Shop Small passport, which they can fill by visiting each participating business. Everyone who turns in their passport at Paper Mill Bookstore by 5:00 p.m. will be entered to win a gift basket valued at $200.

“It’s just a great incentive for people to visit all of the stores, see what’s there to offer, what kind of promotions are going on, and just get everybody into all of the businesses so that they can support small,” Marcotte said.

Snider says the Shop Small passport is a fun and unique way to reach new customers.

“We love when people come in and have never been here before and realize what a great town we have and what great shops and restaurants we do have,” she said.

Marcotte says the passport also reminds locals of the importance of supporting the businesses in their own community on Shop Small Saturday and beyond.

“It really helps bring awareness that you can shop small and find all the things that you’re looking for for the holidays and all year round,” said Marcotte.

Passports are available for pickup at The Mustard Seed, Michigan Made, Yooper Fitness, Drift Alchemy, The Grind Coffee House, Bostique, Camp & Coastal Design Co., Putvins, Paper Mill Bookstore, Ben Franklin, Lake Effect Gallery, Westside Tobacco, Maninstique Candle Co., Treasure City, and Hayden Laine Clothing Co.
