ISHPEMING, Mich, (WZMQ) – A foundation in West Marquette County is helping non-profits get the resources they need to keep serving the community.
Tonight was the West End Health Foundation’s annual “Business After Hours” event, hosted by the Mather Inn in Ishpeming.
The event allowed the foundation to not only celebrate the non-profits of west Marquette county, but also award them with grants to help them keep up the good work.
“We know that non-profits are stretched thin these days. We know that the west end is a smaller population that has very big problems as well,” said West End Health Foundation Board Member Kori Bjorn, “What we want to do is just be something else that can be able to support our residents and the non-profits that are doing the great work in our portion of the county. “
Nine different grants were awarded, totaling $50,000.
One non-profit that received a grant was “Beyond 26”, an organization that helps educate impaired adults.
Beyond 26 Teacher Kathrine Kososki, said the grants help her and her students keep learning.
“This pushed me to learn more and to try to find ways to help,” said Kososki, “and to watch the looks on their faces when they get something, when they understand something, it warms the cockles of my heart.”
