IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WZMQ) – In anticipation of downtown Iron Mountain’s Second Annual Pumpkin Walk, Kenzie Williamsen, the Downtown Development Authority’s Event Coordinator, shared the exciting plans for this weekend’s Halloween extravaganza. She stated, “Last year was the very first one. First National Bank and Trust came to us last year and asked if we could do a joint downtown pumpkin walk, and then for our second annual Marshfield Medical Center, Dickinson asked if they could join our pumpkin walk as well. They’ve been having theirs for over a decade, so now that we’re joining forces, we believe we’ll see about 1200 kids this year at the pumpkin walk.”
Williamsen explained that downtown businesses would compete for mini-grants based on a public vote on the spookiest window display. “First place is $400, second place is $200. Additionally, at the trunk or treat event, there’s another chance to win, and anyone who participated in the trunk or treat has a chance to win a $250 grant for the best trunk. Voting for this will happen at the trunk or treat.”
The winners of these competitions will be revealed on Halloween.
With approximately 10 participating businesses decorating their windows downtown, the event promises a visual spectacle, with displays ranging from Kenneth James Salon to 41 Lumber.
Williamsen added, “The trunk or treat is from noon until 3:00 p.m., and then the costume contest starts at 3:00 right at the stage. There’s going to be different age groups happening about two ages at a time, and we’re going to have about 7 to 8 prizes to give away to some kids.”
Sponsored jointly by First National Bank and Trust, as well as Marshfield Medical Center, Dickinson, this year’s Pumpkin Walk is expected to surpass last year’s success. Williamsen remarked, “It almost doubled in size from the first year to the second for vehicles, and we’re expecting double as many kids to come from last year to this year.”
During the trunk or treat event, the Dickinson County Library will host “Ghoulie Glowing Golfing.” Williamsen revealed that attendees can sign up for tee times in advance to avoid waiting in line. The fun activity runs from noon to 3:00 p.m., providing even more Halloween fun for the participants.
Williamsen concluded, “The whole pumpkin walk as a whole, we weren’t sure what to expect last year because it was the first one, and the whole event was outstanding for what we expected. They had over 650 kids come and play Ghoulie Glowing Golfing last year, so that’s why they brought it back. They even put it in a bigger room, they have extra space because they’re more prepared to see as many kids as we did last year.”
