IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WZMQ) – A home is considered to be uninhabitable after a fire occurred Wednesday afternoon in the city of Iron Mountain.
At approximately 3:15 p.m., the Iron Mountain Fire Department was dispatched to a residential structure fire at 840 East F Street.
The first responders were on the scene within a few minutes, and found heavy fire conditions on the first floor, and the space between the ceiling and the second floor.
Multiple lines were used to extinguish the fire, and off-duty fire fighters as well as Breitung Township Fire Department were called to assist on the scene.
A search of the structure was conducted during the suppression efforts, as one resident was unaccounted for at the time. They were later reported to be safe at a different location.
The fire remains under investigation.
A total of 18 fire fighters, 3 engines, 1 heavy rescue truck, and 1 mini pump responded to the scene.
Officers from the Iron Mountain Police Department, Integrity Care EMS, WE Energies, DTE, and the Red Cross also assisted at the scene.
Damage is initially estimated at approximately $40,000 to the structure and contents.
