Ishpeming residents voice concerns over ongoing residential flooding

ISHPEMING, Mich. (WZMQ) – Ishpeming residents voiced their concerns tonight regarding continual residential flooding during a contentious city council meeting.

According to residents from Ishpeming, overflowing water from city water lines has caused basement flooding and in some cases even raw sewage backup. One resident stated he has had to spend over $20,000 on home repairs because of the water back ups. The city council called for a closed session following heated debate to discuss solutions to the flooding issue.

Residents at the meeting were upset with the lack of immediate action by the city council.

“I know it’s only the beginning step but at least [the council is] talking about it now, I hope [the council] finds a solution to the problem, I am sure they would do something if it was their own house, I am sure a solution would be find a lot quicker than it is happening,” said Joe Gagliardi, a Ishpeming homeowner who has seen extensive flooding in his home.

According to city manager Craig Cugini the city is working with state and federal partners to find a solution to the problem.
