The Grand Marais Music & Crafts Festival bringing live tribute bands to the UP

GRAND MARAIS, Mich. (WZMQ) – The community of Grand Marais is showing off its musical talent at the 41st Music and Craft Festival. “This is the money that we bring in that we use throughout the year to do really great things as we donate for the fourth of July we then turn around and donate to the historical society, and plant flowers throughout the town,” commented President of Grand Marais Chamber of Commerce Brandy Taylor.

Hosted by the Grand Marais Chamber of Commerce, there is plenty to enjoy at this year’s show from the food to the live music and craft vendors. Organizers comment it’s the biggest fundraiser for the year, helping to fund a lot of other events around town.

“Between the music and the honestly last night I was just sitting and watching the community dance and come together and for me, that’s kind of the coolest thing,” continued Taylor.

Throughout the weekend the community can catch some live music with a Bon Jovi Tribute Band, blues bands, and country music bands all performing. One performer Wyatt Kuilk, who was on the UP voice, commented that playing on stage for him isn’t really that intimidating, especially with such a supportive community.

“I like the reaction from people most people care about a lot up here, they wanna hear you, they come out to hear you no matter what kind of performance you’re throwing up you know if you’re up there they wanna show up and I like that,” commented Kuilk.

One beloved food recommendation is Toby’s Dog House. Along with surf and turf tacos and lobster rolls, Toby certainly knows his way around making good festival food. “I started this five years ago I go around to all the festivals, and it’s fantastic, the crowd is great, the people are great, the music great what else could you ask for,” commented Toby Smith.

Even though the rain peaked through, the community was still glued to their seats enjoying the live performers. “It’s a really awesome tight-knit community that we have here and we’re really really blessed and to be able to do something on this kind of scale brings the tourism and the money in to support us so that we can thrive socially and to give back to our community throughout the year,” continued Taylor.
