NIAGARA, Wis. – (WZMQ) – In a heartwarming display of unity, police and first responders from Dickinson County, and the surrounding areas came together for a family-friendly night of fun in Niagara, Wisconsin. Organized by the Michigan State Police, Iron Mountain Police Department, Florence County Sheriff’s Department, as well as the Niagara police department, the National Night Out event drew representatives from various service agencies near the Michigan border to engage with the community.

Organizers estimated that over a thousand people gathered at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College to participate in the festivities. Bounce houses dotted the landscape, providing endless joy for children and adults alike. The highlight of the night was the presence of a Guardian Flight helicopter, which captivated everyone’s attention.

Trooper Geno Basanese of the Michigan State Police, Iron Mountain post, expressed his enthusiasm for the event. “It’s always the first Tuesday in August. And so we’ve been doing this for several years now, and it’s a great time just to come out, it’s free. There’s bounce houses, the helicopter is here. It took a few phone calls, but they love coming out, and what an attraction to have,” he commented.

The National Night Out event aimed to strengthen the bond between families and their local police, fire, and other emergency services. With smiles on their faces, community members seized the opportunity to connect with the heroes who protect and serve them every day. Many parents excitedly captured their child’s photo-op with Smokey Bear, who made an appearance at the event. The event served as a reminder that the police and first responders are not just uniformed figures, but individuals who genuinely care about their community’s well-being.

As the night came to a close, the organizers expressed their gratitude for the overwhelming support from the community. They emphasized the importance of events like National Night Out in fostering a sense of unity and understanding between law enforcement and the public they serve.
