Delta County 100+ Women Who Care raising funds for local nonprofits

BARK RIVER, Mich. (WZMQ) – A new group in Delta County is bringing women together to fundraise for local nonprofits.

Delta County 100+ Women Who Care is part of a larger organization, the 100 Who Care Alliance. The group hosts quarterly meetings, where each woman or team of women contributes $100 and nominates a 501(c)(3). Then, the group selects one 501(c)(3) to donate all the money to.

“Five years ago I kind of brought it to our area, but it didn’t take off,” said steering member Chris Tryan. “I didn’t get enough interest, so I put it to rest. Then I heard about the group in Dickinson County, got a lot of interest, and this one’s taking off.”

100+ Women Who Care held its first giving meeting on Thursday, July 20 at the Highland Golf Club. Still starting out, the group has just under 50 members. However, once it reaches 100 members, steering member Samantha Griebel says it could have a big impact.

“With 100 members and $100 each, one night’s funds could be up to $10,000,” said Griebel. “That is a great donation, and all of those donations stay right in the county. Our plan is really just to get women together, get us all talking about what our community needs, what organizations need financial help, and to give them that much-needed help.”

Tryan adds the group can make it easier to donate to different causes.

“Everybody’s trying to fundraise and, honestly, you try to go to all the fundraisers and it can be time-consuming,” said Tryan. “This is a commitment four times a year, the meeting is quick, it lets you do your part, but it’s part of a larger donation that gets put to those nonprofits.”
