ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – The longstanding ice cream shop in Escanaba celebrates National Ice Cream Day. Jim’s Dari Kreme in Escanaba has some sweet treats and is true to their slogan, “the biggest cone in town”.
As a business that her family has owned since she was 16, employee Jan St. Vincent knows even though they don’t share a Jim in the family, they always found ways to support the legacy. “Yea my mom used to own another business in town and had sold that, my mom bought the place when I was sixteen, it’s been in the family and it’s still remaining in the family,” said St. Vincent.
For over 41 years, Jan’s mother owned the shop on 12th Avenue and now it has been passed to Jans’s son and partner, Austin St. Vincent and Trevor Sebeck. Jan commented that when she was younger, Jim’s Dari Kreme was always the hot spot for a cold treat. “The neighborhood kids, we would all come over and we have webster school across the street. I always got vanilla ice cream dipped in cherry,” St. Vincent continued.
On National Ice Cream Day and for the rest of the week, the ice cream shop is highlighting its E.T. sundae and the sweet almond-flavored amaretto ice cream,
“Today we’ve had a lot of people in and out. We have the E.T. Sundae which started many years ago and that’s really popular. The E.T. sundae is chocolate ice cream and peanut butter topping that we make up and Reese’s pieces on the top,” continued St. Vincent.
The shop offers different flavors every week and next week will be Peach and then blueberry flavor for the upcoming blueberry festival.
