Escanaba vendors set up shop at weekly Pop-Up Market

ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – A new weekly event is giving Escanaba vendors a chance to share their products.

Downtown each Friday, creators and sellers set up shop for a Pop-Up Market from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. A variety of crafts, home goods, accessories, and other items are available to purchase at the marketplace on Ludington Street.

Downtown Development Authority (DDA) Director Craig Woerpel says the Pop-Up Market is another way Escanaba is working to create a sense of community and to support local vendors.

“The idea is to maybe encourage some people who might want to be entrepreneurs or to test out a product that they want to see how the public might react to it,” said Woerpel.

Vendor Julie Martinson sells hand-loomed rugs. They are all made with new fabric and recycled selvage edges.

Martinson is excited about the opportunity to expose new potential customers to her creations at the Pop-Up Market.

“I think it’s a good way to get it out there, to advertise your product,” she said. “If you sell something, well, that’s good too!”

The Pop-Up Market will continue weekly throughout the summer. Woerpel says depending on public response, the event could continue into the fall.

There is no charge to sell at the Pop-Up Market. Contact the Escanaba DDA at escanabadda@gmail.com for more information.
