Norway Speedway Brings Out the Best of the Best in Heart-Stopping Summer Races

Norway, Mich. (WZMQ) – The roar of engines and the smell of gasoline filled the air at the Norway Speedway as drivers pushed their cars to the limit, leaving the crowd on the edge of their seats. Scott Stanchina and Joey Pontbriand are just two of the racers who know how to handle the curves and straightaways, taking risks to come out on top.

Stanchina is on a mission to collect trophies all summer long, having already secured a second-place finish in the first week of racing.

“So far this year’s been going good,” Stanchina reflected. “We came home in one piece which is even better.”

As the track’s Vice President and a racer himself, Joey Pontbriand knows that the Super Speed Late Model class is a favorite among drivers. However, the Sportsman class is also becoming a fan favorite, with an 18-second limit that brings out the old cars and gets more people involved.

“Guys literally come out, they have a bunch of fun, they can’t go too fast because they break out,” Pontbriand informed. “It’s kind of weird to explain to people but what it does is gets lot of the old cars out of the weeds, and guys involved.”

It’s not just the male drivers who are making their mark on the track. Women, youth, and young girls are also getting involved, bringing a new level of diversity to the races.

“Really I like to watch them all right down to the four cylinders,” Pontbriand added. “There’s a bunch of girls and women that run in there and it’s really neat so I just like to see the progression.”

With drivers like Stanchina and Pontbriand pushing their machines to the limit, Norway Speedway is the place to be on Friday nights all the way through Labor Day.

Grandstands open at 5 central time and the spectator eliminator races start at 7 p.m. central time tomorrow night.
